Chronic staphylococcal stomatitis resistant to penicillin and tetracycline, with evidence of local immune response. Report of a case apparently precipitated by toothbrushing trauma.
Oral surgery, oral medicine, and oral pathology, 1977, Volume: 43, Issue:3

Described is a case of chronic staphylococcal stomatitis, apparently precipitated by toothbrushing, which persisted for almost 6 months. The implicated organism, Staphylococcus aureus, was resistant to penicillin and tetracycline but sensitive to erythromycin. Recovery finally occurred after antibiotic therapy combined with surgical excision of some small persistent ulcers. Ther sera from a paired set of blood specimens failed to show a significant agglutinating titer, but the samples of saliva collected at the same times gave evidence of specific secretory Iga and showed relatively high agglutinating titer.

Topics: Adult; Agglutination Tests; Chronic Disease; Humans; Male; Penicillin Resistance; Penicillins; Staphylococcal Infections; Staphylococcus aureus; Stomatitis; Tetracycline; Toothbrushing

Unusual oral lesions in a uremic patient. Review of the literature and report of a case.
Oral surgery, oral medicine, and oral pathology, 1975, Volume: 39, Issue:6

Uremia is defined as the accumulation of nitrogenous waste products in the blood. Uremia may be caused by either acute or chronic renal failure. Uremic stomatitis represents a relatively uncommon intraoral complication of uremia. Uremic stomatitis has classically been divided into ulcerative and nonulcerative types. Reported here is a patient with chronic renal failure exhibiting intraoral lesions that persisted despite local treatment but rapidly cleared following renal dialysis. This case represents the first published report of the microscopic appearance of the nonulcerative type and presents unusual tissue changes heretofore unreported.

    Klinische Padiatrie, 1975, Volume: 187, Issue:2

Report about cyclic agranulocytosis in a 10 1/2 years old girls, having stomatitis, sore throat and fever up to 39 degrees C in the interval of approximately 3 weeks since the age of 6 months. By the prophylactic treatment with pulverized tetracyclin, which is already given 2 days prior to the expected decrease of the neutrophils, the patient stays clinically asymptomatic since 7 months.
