succinic acid and Neuroblastoma

succinic acid has been researched along with Neuroblastoma in 5 studies

Succinic Acid: A water-soluble, colorless crystal with an acid taste that is used as a chemical intermediate, in medicine, the manufacture of lacquers, and to make perfume esters. It is also used in foods as a sequestrant, buffer, and a neutralizing agent. (Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary, 12th ed, p1099; McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed, p1851)
succinic acid : An alpha,omega-dicarboxylic acid resulting from the formal oxidation of each of the terminal methyl groups of butane to the corresponding carboxy group. It is an intermediate metabolite in the citric acid cycle.

Neuroblastoma: A common neoplasm of early childhood arising from neural crest cells in the sympathetic nervous system, and characterized by diverse clinical behavior, ranging from spontaneous remission to rapid metastatic progression and death. This tumor is the most common intraabdominal malignancy of childhood, but it may also arise from thorax, neck, or rarely occur in the central nervous system. Histologic features include uniform round cells with hyperchromatic nuclei arranged in nests and separated by fibrovascular septa. Neuroblastomas may be associated with the opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome. (From DeVita et al., Cancer: Principles and Practice of Oncology, 5th ed, pp2099-2101; Curr Opin Oncol 1998 Jan;10(1):43-51)

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" Here we demonstrate how non-toxic doses of the mitochondrial Complex II inhibitor thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTFA), which specifically inhibits the ubiquinone-binding site of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), synergistically stimulated cell death, induced by harmless doses of cisplatin in a panel of chemoresistant neuroblastoma cell lines."3.83Targeting succinate:ubiquinone reductase potentiates the efficacy of anticancer therapy. ( Gogvadze, V; Kruspig, B; Skender, B; Valter, K; Zhivotovsky, B, 2016)
"The metabolism and metabolic effects of succinic acid methyl esters were examined in both NG108-15 mouse neuroblastoma x rat glioma hybrid cells and normal rat brain cells."3.69Metabolism of succinic acid methyl esters in neural cells. ( Malaisse, WJ; Rasschaert, J; Zhang, TM, 1995)
"Uridine (100 μM) was found to increase the percentage of neurite-bearing cells of differentiating neuroblastoma (N2a) cells by 43."1.42Uridine from Pleurotus giganteus and Its Neurite Outgrowth Stimulatory Effects with Underlying Mechanism.
