sorbitol and Diabetes, Gestational

sorbitol has been researched along with Diabetes, Gestational in 2 studies

D-glucitol : The D-enantiomer of glucitol (also known as D-sorbitol).

Diabetes, Gestational: Diabetes mellitus induced by PREGNANCY but resolved at the end of pregnancy. It does not include previously diagnosed diabetics who become pregnant (PREGNANCY IN DIABETICS). Gestational diabetes usually develops in late pregnancy when insulin antagonistic hormones peaks leading to INSULIN RESISTANCE; GLUCOSE INTOLERANCE; and HYPERGLYCEMIA.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"In this observational study, fasting glucose, sorbitol and fructose concentrations were measured using gas-chromatography-liquid mass spectroscopy in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), maternal plasma, and venous cord blood collected from 25 pregnant women (6 lean, 10 overweight/obese, and 9 T2DM/gestational DM) undergoing spinal anesthesia and elective cesarean section."3.81Fructose levels are markedly elevated in cerebrospinal fluid compared to plasma in pregnant women. ( Belfort-DeAguiar, R; Cline, G; Han, CS; Hwang, JJ; Johnson, A; Khokhar, B; Sherwin, RS; Snegovskikh, D, 2015)
"There is no significant difference in insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue from pregnant or nonpregnant women; hyperosmolarity stimulates glucose uptake in subcutaneous adipose tissue from nonpregnant women, and adipose tissue from pregnant women is sorbitol resistant."3.73Adipose tissue from pregnant women with and without gestational diabetes mellitus: insulin-sensitive but resistant to hyperosomolarity. ( McIntyre, HD; Prins, JB; Russell, AW; Whitehead, JP, 2005)
