reserpine and Muscle Disorders

reserpine has been researched along with Muscle Disorders in 6 studies

Reserpine: An alkaloid found in the roots of Rauwolfia serpentina and R. vomitoria. Reserpine inhibits the uptake of norepinephrine into storage vesicles resulting in depletion of catecholamines and serotonin from central and peripheral axon terminals. It has been used as an antihypertensive and an antipsychotic as well as a research tool, but its adverse effects limit its clinical use.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" Importantly, we found different profiles of PORH in animals pretreated with reserpine (accelerated peak and reduced half recovery time), streptozotocin (increased peak), or subjected to muscle contraction in stretching (delayed peak), approaches used as experimental models to study fibromyalgia, type II diabetes mellitus, and soreness induced by unaccustomed eccentric exercise, respectively."4.02Detection of blood flow perfusion and post - occlusive reactive hyperemia in the skeletal muscle of rats. ( Ascenso, R; da Silva-Santos, JE; Souza-Silva, E; Tonussi, CR, 2021)
"Fibromyalgia is a prevalent and burdensome disorder characterized by chronic widespread pain and complex comorbid symptoms."1.35Biogenic amine depletion causes chronic muscular pain and tactile allodynia accompanied by depression: A putative animal model of fibromyalgia. ( Aoki, T; Matsuoka, N; Nagakura, Y; Oe, T, 2009)
"Diarrhoea, impotence, failure of ejaculation, blurred vision, depression, and the symptoms of postural hypotension were not related to methyldopa therapy."1.25Side effects of hypotensive agents evaluated by a self-administered questionnaire. ( Bulpitt, CJ; Dollery, CT, 1973)
