reserpine and Delayed Hypersensitivity

reserpine has been researched along with Delayed Hypersensitivity in 15 studies

Reserpine: An alkaloid found in the roots of Rauwolfia serpentina and R. vomitoria. Reserpine inhibits the uptake of norepinephrine into storage vesicles resulting in depletion of catecholamines and serotonin from central and peripheral axon terminals. It has been used as an antihypertensive and an antipsychotic as well as a research tool, but its adverse effects limit its clinical use.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" To determine whether mast cells are also important for the development of an immune-mediated inflammatory response across the endothelial tight junctions of the blood-brain barrier, the development of mononuclear inflammation in the central nervous system of reserpine-treated mice and mast cell-deficient mice (WBB6F1-W/Wv) was studied after infection with Sindbis virus."3.67The role of mast cells in virus-induced inflammation in the murine central nervous system. ( Griffin, DE; Mokhtarian, F, 1984)
"It has been suggested that reserpine blocks expression of delayed hypersensitivity in mice because it depletes stores of the vasoactive amine serotonin in mast cells."3.67Unequivocal delayed hypersensitivity in mast cell-deficient and beige mice. ( Galli, SJ; Hammel, I, 1984)
"Experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE), a T cell-mediated autoimmune disease can be transferred with lymphoid cells from actively immunized rats into naive recipients."1.28The role of mast cells in the elicitation of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis.
