reserpine and Central Nervous System Diseases

reserpine has been researched along with Central Nervous System Diseases in 12 studies

Reserpine: An alkaloid found in the roots of Rauwolfia serpentina and R. vomitoria. Reserpine inhibits the uptake of norepinephrine into storage vesicles resulting in depletion of catecholamines and serotonin from central and peripheral axon terminals. It has been used as an antihypertensive and an antipsychotic as well as a research tool, but its adverse effects limit its clinical use.

Central Nervous System Diseases: Diseases of any component of the brain (including the cerebral hemispheres, diencephalon, brain stem, and cerebellum) or the spinal cord.

" To determine whether mast cells are also important for the development of an immune-mediated inflammatory response across the endothelial tight junctions of the blood-brain barrier, the development of mononuclear inflammation in the central nervous system of reserpine-treated mice and mast cell-deficient mice (WBB6F1-W/Wv) was studied after infection with Sindbis virus."3.67The role of mast cells in virus-induced inflammation in the murine central nervous system.
