reserpine and Burns

reserpine has been researched along with Burns in 4 studies

Reserpine: An alkaloid found in the roots of Rauwolfia serpentina and R. vomitoria. Reserpine inhibits the uptake of norepinephrine into storage vesicles resulting in depletion of catecholamines and serotonin from central and peripheral axon terminals. It has been used as an antihypertensive and an antipsychotic as well as a research tool, but its adverse effects limit its clinical use.

Burns: Injuries to tissues caused by contact with heat, steam, chemicals (BURNS, CHEMICAL), electricity (BURNS, ELECTRIC), or the like.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" Significant inhibition of oedema formation caused by thermal injury was observed for calcium carbaspirin, phenylbutazone, hydrocortisone, cryogenine and indomethacin when given daily beginning 2 days prior to thermal exposure and afterwards."3.65Evaluation of cryogenine on rat paw thermal oedema and rat isolated uterus. ( Malone, MH; Trottier, RW, 1973)
" Despite the significant reduction (approximately 50%) of plasma volume loss in this dosage group, there were no significant alterations in either cardiac output or mean arterial pressure."1.26Effects of reserpine upon thermal stress-induced cardiovascular changes. ( Hilton, JG, 1979)
