Occupational asthma caused by pyrazolone derivative used in silver halide photographic paper.
Occupational asthma has been documented in workers exposed to a wide variety of chemical compounds. Reactive dyes have been described as causing occupational asthma in textile industry workers. We report a case of occupational asthma resulting from exposure to pyrazolone dye used in silver halide photographic paper. There is a need for both further surveys of workers exposed to other reactive dyes and careful preventive measures in the handling of such compounds. Trichosporon beigelii pneumonia in a neutropenic patient.
A case of pulmonary infection caused by Trichosporon beigelii is reported in an asthmatic patient undergoing steroid treatment who developed fever and lung infiltrates. Arthroconidia and blastoconidia were isolated from repeated sputum, bronchial aspirate and telescopic catheter samples. The infection coincided with neutropenia resulting from pyrazolone treatment. The response to amphotericin B treatment was favourable. Pyrazolones and analgesic asthma syndrome.
Many peripherally acting analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs, including pyrazolone derivatives, can precipitate idiosyncratic hypersensitivity reactions in intrinsic asthmatics. This contribution focuses on the symptomatology, diagnosis, and therapy ('desensitization') in childhood and adult analgesic asthma syndrome. Topics: Adult; Anti-Inflammatory Agents, Non-Steroidal; Aspirin; Asthma; Child; Dipyrone; Female; Humans; Immunoglobulin E; Male; Pyrazoles; Pyrazolones; Syndrome | 1986 |
Nasal symptoms in pseudoallergic reactions.
In a retrospective investigation 469 pseudoallergic reactions (analgesics asthma reactions) that emerged in 197 patients with analgesics intolerance have been analysed. Besides mostly severe asthma-attacks 26.5% of the reactions were sneeze-attacks and in 37.5% nasal secretion was found. 86% of the reactions emerged within a maximum of 45 minutes after oral application of the analgesic. About a third of the analgesics-asthma reactions occurs together with reactions of the nose mucous membrane. So the connection of analgesics-asthma and chronic hyperplastical changes of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract is also reflected in the course of the pseudoallergic intolerance reaction.
