protriptyline and Disorders of Excessive Somnolence

protriptyline has been researched along with Disorders of Excessive Somnolence in 1 studies

Protriptyline: Tricyclic antidepressant similar in action and side effects to IMIPRAMINE. It may produce excitation.

Disorders of Excessive Somnolence: Disorders characterized by hypersomnolence during normal waking hours that may impair cognitive functioning. Subtypes include primary hypersomnia disorders (e.g., IDIOPATHIC HYPERSOMNOLENCE; NARCOLEPSY; and KLEINE-LEVIN SYNDROME) and secondary hypersomnia disorders where excessive somnolence can be attributed to a known cause (e.g., drug affect, MENTAL DISORDERS, and SLEEP APNEA SYNDROME). Research Excerpts

"The authors present five case reports illustrating that 10-20 mg of protriptyline in a single dose at bedtime can effectively control arousal dysfunction (sleep drunkenness and hypersomnia) and the narcolepsycataplexy syndrome without the apparent development of tolerance and without the side effects that are frequent complications of treatment with other agents."7.65Protriptyline: an effective agent in the treatment of the narcolepsy-cataplexy syndrome and hypersomnia.
