propofol and Aneurysm, Ruptured

propofol has been researched along with Aneurysm, Ruptured in 5 studies

Propofol: An intravenous anesthetic agent which has the advantage of a very rapid onset after infusion or bolus injection plus a very short recovery period of a couple of minutes. (From Smith and Reynard, Textbook of Pharmacology, 1992, 1st ed, p206). Propofol has been used as ANTICONVULSANTS and ANTIEMETICS.
propofol : A phenol resulting from the formal substitution of the hydrogen at the 2 position of 1,3-diisopropylbenzene by a hydroxy group.

Aneurysm, Ruptured: The tearing or bursting of the weakened wall of the aneurysmal sac, usually heralded by sudden worsening pain. The great danger of a ruptured aneurysm is the large amount of blood spilling into the surrounding tissues and cavities, causing HEMORRHAGIC SHOCK.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"In patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) a disturbance of cerebral autoregulation has been reported and it correlated with the severity of the bleeding in these studies."1.33Dynamic cerebral autoregulation in patients with ruptured and unruptured aneurysms after induction of general anesthesia. ( Christmann, A; Engelhardt, M; Harders, A; Möller, F; Schmieder, K; Scholz, M; Schregel, W, 2006)
"In univariate analysis of patients with ruptured aneurysms, younger age, better clinical grade, lower Fisher grade, lower intraoperative blood pressure (maximum systolic and mean blood pressure), smaller decrease in intraoperative compared to preoperative systolic blood pressure, shorter duration of surgery, and use of propofol, pancuronium, or N(2)O were associated with significantly better outcome."1.31Intraoperative variables and early outcome after aneurysm surgery.
