prochlorperazine and Stevens-Johnson Syndrome

prochlorperazine has been researched along with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome in 2 studies

Prochlorperazine: A phenothiazine antipsychotic used principally in the treatment of NAUSEA; VOMITING; and VERTIGO. It is more likely than CHLORPROMAZINE to cause EXTRAPYRAMIDAL DISORDERS. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p612)
prochlorperazine : A member of the class of phenothiazines that is 10H-phenothiazine having a chloro substituent at the 2-position and a 3-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)propyl group at the N-10 position.

Stevens-Johnson Syndrome: Rare cutaneous eruption characterized by extensive KERATINOCYTE apoptosis resulting in skin detachment with mucosal involvement. It is often provoked by the use of drugs (e.g., antibiotics and anticonvulsants) or associated with PNEUMONIA, MYCOPLASMA. It is considered a continuum of Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"In a case of drug-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis with fatal outcome in a 48-year-old man, we demonstrated that the majority of the inflammatory cells were of helper/inducer T-lymphocyte subsets, having only a minority of cytotoxic/suppressor T-lymphocytes and rare cells with natural killer cell phenotype."1.27Lymphocyte subsets and Langerhans' cells in toxic epidermal necrolysis. Report of a case. ( Gravallese, E; Guillén, FJ; Merot, Y; Murphy, GF, 1986)
