probucol and Insulin Resistance

probucol has been researched along with Insulin Resistance in 4 studies

Probucol: A drug used to lower LDL and HDL cholesterol yet has little effect on serum-triglyceride or VLDL cholesterol. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p993).
probucol : A dithioketal that is propane-2,2-dithiol in which the hydrogens attached to both sulfur atoms are replaced by 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl groups. An anticholesteremic drug with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it is used to treat high levels of cholesterol in blood.

Insulin Resistance: Diminished effectiveness of INSULIN in lowering blood sugar levels: requiring the use of 200 units or more of insulin per day to prevent HYPERGLYCEMIA or KETOSIS.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" Therefore, we have tested whether the previously proven blood-brain barrier protective agent, probucol, can prevent blood-brain barrier breakdown and cognitive decline in a dietary-induced murine model of diabetic insulin resistance."3.91Probucol prevents blood-brain barrier dysfunction and cognitive decline in mice maintained on pro-diabetic diet. ( Al-Salami, H; Brook, E; Fimognari, N; Lam, V; Mamo, JC; Mooranian, A; Nesbit, M; Takechi, R, 2019)
"Probucol (PB) is an hypolipidaemic drug with potential antidiabetic effects."1.48The biological effects of the hypolipidaemic drug probucol microcapsules fed daily for 4 weeks, to an insulin-resistant mouse model: potential hypoglycaemic and anti-inflammatory effects. ( Al-Salami, H; Al-Sallami, H; Mamo, J; Mooranian, A; Negrulj, R; Takechi, R, 2018)
