probenecid and Infections

probenecid has been researched along with Infections in 3 studies

Probenecid: The prototypical uricosuric agent. It inhibits the renal excretion of organic anions and reduces tubular reabsorption of urate. Probenecid has also been used to treat patients with renal impairment, and, because it reduces the renal tubular excretion of other drugs, has been used as an adjunct to antibacterial therapy.
probenecid : A sulfonamide in which the nitrogen of 4-sulfamoylbenzoic acid is substituted with two propyl groups.

Infections: Invasion of the host organism by microorganisms or their toxins or by parasites that can cause pathological conditions or diseases.

"Eighty-six men with uncomplicated gonorrhoea were entered into a study comparing the efficacy of a single oral dose of 250 mg of ciprofloxacin with a single oral dose of ampicillin 2 g and probenecid 1 g for urethral gonorrhoea and a course of ampicillin, 500 mg four times per day for five days in rectal and pharyngeal infection."5.06Ciprofloxacin versus ampicillin and probenecid in the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhoea in men.
