probenecid and Body Weight

probenecid has been researched along with Body Weight in 29 studies

Probenecid: The prototypical uricosuric agent. It inhibits the renal excretion of organic anions and reduces tubular reabsorption of urate. Probenecid has also been used to treat patients with renal impairment, and, because it reduces the renal tubular excretion of other drugs, has been used as an adjunct to antibacterial therapy.
probenecid : A sulfonamide in which the nitrogen of 4-sulfamoylbenzoic acid is substituted with two propyl groups.

Body Weight: The mass or quantity of heaviness of an individual. It is expressed by units of pounds or kilograms.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"CSF concentrations of serotonin and dopamine metabolites in 16 patients with anorexia nervosa were measured before and after probenecid administration, and the patients were studied before and at intervals after weight recovery."3.67Differences in brain serotonergic metabolism between nonbulimic and bulimic patients with anorexia nervosa. ( Ebert, MH; Gwirtsman, HE; Kaye, WH; Weiss, SR, 1984)
" Probenecid pretreatment led to a reduction in Tris-BP and Bis-BP tubular necrosis, these effects may be related to inhibition of Bis-BP uptake in the kidney."3.67Nephrotoxicity of selectively deuterated and methylated analogues of Tris-BP and Bis-BP in the rat. ( Dahl, JE; Dybing, E; Nelson, SD; Omichinski, JG; Søderlund, EJ, 1988)
"Pretreatment with probenecid (240 mg kg-1 body weight) potentiated the hyperglycaemic effect of frusemide (25 or 200 mg kg-1 body weight)."1.27Probenecid potentiates the hyperglycaemic effect but reduces the diuretic effect of frusemide in mice. ( Sandström, PE, 1986)
