prednisolone and Brain Edema

prednisolone has been researched along with Brain Edema in 34 studies

Prednisolone: A glucocorticoid with the general properties of the corticosteroids. It is the drug of choice for all conditions in which routine systemic corticosteroid therapy is indicated, except adrenal deficiency states.
prednisolone : A glucocorticoid that is prednisone in which the oxo group at position 11 has been reduced to the corresponding beta-hydroxy group. It is a drug metabolite of prednisone.

Brain Edema: Increased intracellular or extracellular fluid in brain tissue. Cytotoxic brain edema (swelling due to increased intracellular fluid) is indicative of a disturbance in cell metabolism, and is commonly associated with hypoxic or ischemic injuries (see HYPOXIA, BRAIN). An increase in extracellular fluid may be caused by increased brain capillary permeability (vasogenic edema), an osmotic gradient, local blockages in interstitial fluid pathways, or by obstruction of CSF flow (e.g., obstructive HYDROCEPHALUS). Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"We described a 28-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) presented with digestive tract, skin and renal symptoms and afterwards developed acute cerebellar ataxia, a paresis of the right inferior rectus muscle, left abducens paralysis and left facial palsy which seemed to be consistent with a brainstem lesion visible on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)."1.31Acute cerebellar ataxia of a patient with SLE. ( Sakamoto, M; Shiono, Y; Suenaga, M; Yaginuma, M, 2000)
"Cold induced cerebral edema was produced by touching a metal probe at the temperature of -90 degrees C for 3 minutes on the right parietal cortex of rat brain."1.26[Effect of various kinds of glucocorticoids on experimental brain edema (author's transl)].
