pirenzepine and Bronchial Spasm

pirenzepine has been researched along with Bronchial Spasm in 3 studies

Pirenzepine: An antimuscarinic agent that inhibits gastric secretion at lower doses than are required to affect gastrointestinal motility, salivary, central nervous system, cardiovascular, ocular, and urinary function. It promotes the healing of duodenal ulcers and due to its cytoprotective action is beneficial in the prevention of duodenal ulcer recurrence. It also potentiates the effect of other antiulcer agents such as CIMETIDINE and RANITIDINE. It is generally well tolerated by patients.

Bronchial Spasm: Spasmodic contraction of the smooth muscle of the bronchi.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The effect of two anticholinergic drugs, Ipratropium bromide, nonselective muscarinic receptor antagonist and Pirenzepine, a selective M1 receptor blocker on bronchospasm induced by metacholine and histamine was investigated."3.68[The effect of muscarinic receptor blockers on non-specific bronchial reactivity in patients with bronchial asthma]. ( Siergiejko, Z, 1992)
" To determine if postsynaptic muscarinic M-1 receptors mediate airway constriction, the action was compared of pirenzepine, that antagonizes selectively muscarinic M-1 receptors, and atropine, that blocks both muscarinic M-1 and M-2 receptors, on bronchial responses to methacholine inhalation in seven asthmatic patients."3.67Muscarinic M-1 receptors mediate the bronchial hyperresponsiveness during methacholine inhalation.
