Infectious suppurative thrombophlebitis of the portal venous system, referred to as pylephlebitis, is a rare complication of intra-abdominal inflammatory processes. Advances in diagnostics and antibiotics have improved survival, but mortality remains remarkably high even in the most recent literature.
