pilocarpine and Uveitis, Anterior

pilocarpine has been researched along with Uveitis, Anterior in 9 studies

Pilocarpine: A slowly hydrolyzed muscarinic agonist with no nicotinic effects. Pilocarpine is used as a miotic and in the treatment of glaucoma.
(+)-pilocarpine : The (+)-enantiomer of pilocarpine.

Uveitis, Anterior: Inflammation of the anterior uvea comprising the iris, angle structures, and the ciliary body. Manifestations of this disorder include ciliary injection, exudation into the anterior chamber, iris changes, and adhesions between the iris and lens (posterior synechiae). Intraocular pressure may be increased or reduced.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Posterior pupillary synechiae affect a proportion of eyes subjected to iridectomy with or without drainage operation because (1) aqueous humour bypasses the pupil; (2) traumatic iridocyclitis occurs; (3) there is immobility of the iris in the iridectomy sector; (4) in eyes with angle closure glaucoma closer apposition of the iris to the anterior lens capsule increases the tendency; (5) pilocarpine aggravates (4) both in angle closure glaucoma and open angle glaucoma and produces a small immobile pupil facilitating pupillary membrane formation (occlusio pupillae)."7.67Posterior synechiae after glaucoma operations: aggravation by shallow anterior chamber and pilocarpine. ( Clark, CV; Levy, AM; Phillips, CI, 1987)
"A 5-year-old boy presented with a left-sided dilated and unreactive pupil, 3 months before he had suffered from chickenpox and in the course of the acute disease developed anterior uveitis which was treated with local prednisone and mydriatics."3.72[Atypical tonic pupil as a complication of chickenpox infection].
