[Atrophic polychondritis associated with ulcerative colitis].
We report the case of a 46-year-old patient in whom ulcerative colitis had been diagnosed three years ago. He was admitted to the hospital for swelling of the nose. Clinical course and complementary exams led us to diagnose atrophic polychondritis. Twelve cases of such an association have been published so far. Pyoderma gangrenosum producing saddle nose deformity.
Pyoderma gangrenosum affecting the nose is rare and this may lead to diagnostic confusion because of the large differential diagnosis. As diagnosis is made, largely, on the basis of exclusion the treatment of pyoderma gangrenosum may be unduly delayed. The condition is often disfiguring, particularly following inappropriate surgical intervention, and early diagnosis is therefore important. We present a case of pyoderma gangrenosum managed initially in the community with minor surgery and resulting in the rare complication of saddle nose deformity. [The trichorhinophalangeal syndrome. Report of a family with 14 carriers of characteristics in 5 generations].
This article reports on 14 cases of a trichorhinophalangeal syndrome in five successive generations. Besides the well-known characteristics of the TRPS the following symptoms observed in this family are new: Teething was considerably delayed, intelligence was reduced, and there were skin manifestations resembling eczema. Besides, struma colli and colitis ulcerosa were also observed. Subsequent observations have to clarify whether these symptoms are a facultative part of the TRPS pattern. The constant appearance of carriers of these characteristics during five generations points to dominant heredity.
