phentolamine and Eye Diseases

phentolamine has been researched along with Eye Diseases in 5 studies

Phentolamine: A nonselective alpha-adrenergic antagonist. It is used in the treatment of hypertension and hypertensive emergencies, pheochromocytoma, vasospasm of RAYNAUD DISEASE and frostbite, clonidine withdrawal syndrome, impotence, and peripheral vascular disease.
phentolamine : A substituted aniline that is 3-aminophenol in which the hydrogens of the amino group are replaced by 4-methylphenyl and 4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-ylmethyl groups respectively. An alpha-adrenergic antagonist, it is used for the treatment of hypertension.

Eye Diseases: Diseases affecting the eye.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"1% noradrenaline or 10% phenylepherine to either a surgically sympathectomised or a guanethidine treated rabbit eye induced a transient increase in intraocular pressure (IOP), between 90 and 150 min, followed by a fall to hypotensive levels."3.66Prostaglandin mediated inflammatory changes induced by alpha-adrenoceptor stimulation in the sympathectomised rabbit eye. ( Unger, WG, 1979)
" Intravitreous injection of phentolamine was without effect on the intraocular pressure and resistance to outflow of aqueous humour, although such injections resulted in miosis."3.64THE ACTION OF SYMPATHOMIMETIC AMINES ON THE OUTFLOW OF AQUEOUS HUMOUR FROM THE EYE. ( EAKINS, KE; RYAN, SJ, 1964)
"Methysergide seems to inhibit the response, probably acting via the 5-HT1-receptors."1.27Effect of alpha-adrenergic and serotonergic blockers on the acute irritative response in the rabbit eye. ( Krootila, K; Palkama, A; Uusitalo, H, 1987)
