phenobarbital and Disease, Pulmonary

phenobarbital has been researched along with Disease, Pulmonary in 20 studies

Phenobarbital: A barbituric acid derivative that acts as a nonselective central nervous system depressant. It potentiates GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID action on GABA-A RECEPTORS, and modulates chloride currents through receptor channels. It also inhibits glutamate induced depolarizations.
phenobarbital : A member of the class of barbiturates, the structure of which is that of barbituric acid substituted at C-5 by ethyl and phenyl groups.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Findings of lung granulomas are not rare but their etiology may be embarrassing in autoptic and especially in bioptic material which is shown in two such cases: a 19-year old drug addict man practising intravenous administration of Alnagon pills and a 54-year old woman working with acrylonitrile fibres."3.68[Granulomatous processes in the lungs]. ( Dĕdic, K; Horácek, J, 1990)
"Phenobarbital pretreatment did not substantially alter the time course of toxicity induced with 20 mg/l monocrotaline water."1.28Dose-response relationship in intoxication by the pyrrolizidine alkaloid monocrotaline. ( Hubbard, AK; Huxtable, RJ; Shubat, PJ, 1989)
" It is well established that the pneumotoxicity of MCT depends on its hepatic bioactivation to monocrotaline pyrrole (MCTP) and perhaps other toxic metabolites."1.27Effect of a mixed function oxidase inducer and inhibitor on monocrotaline pyrrole pneumotoxicity.
