phenobarbital and Coronary Disease

phenobarbital has been researched along with Coronary Disease in 8 studies

Phenobarbital: A barbituric acid derivative that acts as a nonselective central nervous system depressant. It potentiates GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID action on GABA-A RECEPTORS, and modulates chloride currents through receptor channels. It also inhibits glutamate induced depolarizations.
phenobarbital : A member of the class of barbiturates, the structure of which is that of barbituric acid substituted at C-5 by ethyl and phenyl groups.

Coronary Disease: An imbalance between myocardial functional requirements and the capacity of the CORONARY VESSELS to supply sufficient blood flow. It is a form of MYOCARDIAL ISCHEMIA (insufficient blood supply to the heart muscle) caused by a decreased capacity of the coronary vessels.

"Serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration and the ratio between them, major risk factors of coronary heart disease, and liver size were investigated in 18 subjects who were on enzyme-inducing anticonvulsants, phenytoin alone or in combination with phenobarbital and/or carbamazepine."3.67Serum low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and liver size in subjects on drugs inducing hepatic microsomal enzymes.
