phenacetin and Neuroblastoma

phenacetin has been researched along with Neuroblastoma in 3 studies

Saridon: contains phenacetin, caffeine, propyphenazone & pyrithyldione

Neuroblastoma: A common neoplasm of early childhood arising from neural crest cells in the sympathetic nervous system, and characterized by diverse clinical behavior, ranging from spontaneous remission to rapid metastatic progression and death. This tumor is the most common intraabdominal malignancy of childhood, but it may also arise from thorax, neck, or rarely occur in the central nervous system. Histologic features include uniform round cells with hyperchromatic nuclei arranged in nests and separated by fibrovascular septa. Neuroblastomas may be associated with the opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome. (From DeVita et al., Cancer: Principles and Practice of Oncology, 5th ed, pp2099-2101; Curr Opin Oncol 1998 Jan;10(1):43-51)

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Acetophenetidines, acetamidophenols, phenetidines and aminophenols substituted in o-, m- or p-position inhibit prostaglandin-synthetases originating from C 1300 mouse neuroblastoma cells (clone N2A), rat astrocytoma cells (clone C 6) and rat renal medulla."3.66Inhibition of prostaglandin synthetases derived from neuronal and glial cells and rat renal medulla by ortho-, meta- and para-substituted aminophenolic compounds. ( Baumann, J; von Bruchhausen, F; Wurm, G, 1983)
"The inhibitory actions of phenacetin and paracetamol and of their desacetylation products on prostaglandin synthesis were studied on enzyme preparations originating from a neuronal cell line (mouse neuroblastoma, clone N2A), a glial cell line (rat astrocytoma, clone C6) and rat renal medulla."3.66Inhibitory actions of desacetylation products of phenacetin and paracetamol on prostaglandin synthetases in neuronal and glial cell lines and rat renal medulla.
