pentylenetetrazole and Decerebrate Posturing

pentylenetetrazole has been researched along with Decerebrate Posturing in 22 studies

Pentylenetetrazole: A pharmaceutical agent that displays activity as a central nervous system and respiratory stimulant. It is considered a non-competitive GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID antagonist. Pentylenetetrazole has been used experimentally to study seizure phenomenon and to identify pharmaceuticals that may control seizure susceptibility.
pentetrazol : An organic heterobicyclic compound that is 1H-tetrazole in which the hydrogens at positions 1 and 5 are replaced by a pentane-1,5-diyl group. A central and respiratory stimulant, it was formerly used for the treatment of cough and other respiratory tract disorders, cardiovascular disorders including hypotension, and pruritis.

"(iv) Generalized seizures induced by cortical perfusions showed a clear predominance of contractions in the muscles contralateral to the perfusion site, whereas perfusions in the MRF induced generalized seizures indistinguishable from those produced by i."1.27Comparative effects of topical perfusions of pentylenetetrazol in the mesencephalon and cerebral cortex of cats. ( Márquez, I; Pacheco, T; Velasco, F; Velasco, M, 1985)
"Results suggest that (i) PTZ-induced seizures start in the brain stem reticular formation and propagate to muscles by at least two different pathways: a pyramidal and an extrapyramidal pathway; (ii) that inhibition of seizure activity may start at the cortical level."1.26Specific and non-specific multiple unit activities during pentylenetetrazol seizures. I. Animals with 'encéphale isolé'. ( Romo, R; Velasco, F; Velasco, M, 1980)
"The hypothesis that the seizure susceptibility of chronically denervated cortex is due to interruption of recurrent inhibitory pathways was tested by examining the release of 3H-labeled gamma-aminobutyric acid ([3H]GABA) from chronic slabs and normal cortex of cats."1.26Release of exogenous gamma-[3H]aminobutyric acid during seizure activity in chronically denervated and normal cat cortex.
