pentylenetetrazole and Blood Pressure, High

pentylenetetrazole has been researched along with Blood Pressure, High in 8 studies

Pentylenetetrazole: A pharmaceutical agent that displays activity as a central nervous system and respiratory stimulant. It is considered a non-competitive GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID antagonist. Pentylenetetrazole has been used experimentally to study seizure phenomenon and to identify pharmaceuticals that may control seizure susceptibility.
pentetrazol : An organic heterobicyclic compound that is 1H-tetrazole in which the hydrogens at positions 1 and 5 are replaced by a pentane-1,5-diyl group. A central and respiratory stimulant, it was formerly used for the treatment of cough and other respiratory tract disorders, cardiovascular disorders including hypotension, and pruritis.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The present study was to examine the effect on the blood-brain barrier function of a rapid blood pressure elevation and the duration of this pressure during bicuculline and pentylenetetrazol-induced seizures."3.68The effect of acute hypertension on blood-brain barrier permeability to albumin during experimentally induced epileptic seizures. ( Kaya, M; Oztaş, B, 1991)
"In rabbits subjected to bicuculline (BC)- or pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-seizures of 3 or 20 min duration or to adrenaline-induced hypertension, specific gravity (SG) was measured bilaterally in 15 regional brain areas in order to detect possible associations between the regionally limited blood-brain barrier openings due to these insults (see Nitsch and Klatzo 1983) and the presence of brain edema."3.67Specific gravity increases and brain water content decreases during short epileptiform seizures in discrete rabbit brain areas. ( Fujiwara, K; Klatzo, I; Kuroiwa, T; Nitsch, C, 1984)
"Pentylenetetrazol-induced seizure produces less disruption of the blood-brain barrier in right cerebral hemisphere than in left cerebral hemisphere in female rats."1.30Asymmetrical changes in blood-brain barrier permeability during pentylenetetrazol-induced seizures and in acute hypertension. ( Oztaş, B, 1998)
