pentobarbital and Cytomegalic Inclusion Disease

pentobarbital has been researched along with Cytomegalic Inclusion Disease in 2 studies

Pentobarbital: A short-acting barbiturate that is effective as a sedative and hypnotic (but not as an anti-anxiety) agent and is usually given orally. It is prescribed more frequently for sleep induction than for sedation but, like similar agents, may lose its effectiveness by the second week of continued administration. (From AMA Drug Evaluations Annual, 1994, p236)
pentobarbital : A member of the class of barbiturates, the structure of which is that of barbituric acid substituted at C-5 by ethyl and sec-pentyl groups.

"The purpose of this study was to determine the relative roles of viral-induced interferon (IFN) and viral infection of the liver in mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV)-induced depression of cytochrome P-450 (cyt P-450) levels and enhancement of pentobarbital-induced sleeping time (PEN-ST)."7.67Increased susceptibility to pentobarbital following mouse cytomegalovirus infection: relative roles of viral-induced interferon and viral infection of the liver.
