pentobarbital and Adipocere

pentobarbital has been researched along with Adipocere in 21 studies

Pentobarbital: A short-acting barbiturate that is effective as a sedative and hypnotic (but not as an anti-anxiety) agent and is usually given orally. It is prescribed more frequently for sleep induction than for sedation but, like similar agents, may lose its effectiveness by the second week of continued administration. (From AMA Drug Evaluations Annual, 1994, p236)
pentobarbital : A member of the class of barbiturates, the structure of which is that of barbituric acid substituted at C-5 by ethyl and sec-pentyl groups.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The present study was made on an experimental animal model of a death from anaphylaxis, in which postmortem changes in levels of histamine and 1-methylhistamine, in whole blood were measured."3.68An experimental model of death from anaphylactic shock with compound 48/80 and postmortem changes in levels of histamine in blood. ( Fukuma, Y; Hara, K; Hieda, Y; Kageura, M; Kashimura, S; Takamoto, M, 1990)
"Pentobarbital treatment resulted in two-fold increases in neuron survival in culture after 2 and 4 h postmortem compared to non-anesthetic controls, but was not as effective as simple postmortem treatment on ice and therefore not essential."1.32Postmortem effect of pentobarbital anesthetic on survival of adult cortical neurons in primary culture. ( Brewer, GJ; McManus, DQ; Viel, JJ, 2004)
"In the present two cases of brain death a large amount of barbiturate remained in the brain, even when the blood concentration was not detectable, possibly because the blood flow was stagnant in the brain."1.29Influence of antemortem medication on the determination of brain death. ( Nakajima, Y; Osawa, M; Saito, T; Takeichi, S; Yukawa, N, 1995)
