pentamidine and Disease, Pulmonary

pentamidine has been researched along with Disease, Pulmonary in 7 studies

Pentamidine: Antiprotozoal agent effective in trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, and some fungal infections; used in treatment of PNEUMOCYSTIS pneumonia in HIV-infected patients. It may cause diabetes mellitus, central nervous system damage, and other toxic effects.
pentamidine : A diether consisting of pentane-1,5-diol in which both hydroxyl hydrogens have been replaced by 4-amidinophenyl groups. A trypanocidal drug that is used for treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis and Chagas disease.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"In order to determine the possible effect of aerosolized pentamidine on the cellular composition of the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in HIV-infected patients, differential counts of 22 consecutive patients who had been rebronchoscopied after 3-19 months were reviewed."7.68Pentamidine aerosol increases the number of alveolar macrophages in HIV-infected patients. ( Don, M; Eckert, G; Hilger, HH; Pothoff, G; Schell-Frederick, E; Wassermann, K, 1991)
" Well-controlled studies of aerosolized antibiotics in cystic fibrosis demonstrate that tobramycin on a cyclical basis may reduce sputum volume, bacterial counts, and improve pulmonary function."4.80Inhaled antimicrobial therapy. ( Faris, M; O'Riordan, T, 1999)
