penicillin g and Haemophilus influenzae Meningitis Type B

penicillin g has been researched along with Haemophilus influenzae Meningitis Type B in 33 studies

Penicillin G: A penicillin derivative commonly used in the form of its sodium or potassium salts in the treatment of a variety of infections. It is effective against most gram-positive bacteria and against gram-negative cocci. It has also been used as an experimental convulsant because of its actions on GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID mediated synaptic transmission.
benzylpenicillin : A penicillin in which the substituent at position 6 of the penam ring is a phenylacetamido group.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"For the specific and unspecific treatment of purulent meningitis, penicillin, ampicillin and chloramphenicol are usually sufficient."3.65[Therapy of meningitis (author's transl)]. ( Helm, E; Stille, W, 1976)
"This review considers the five major principles governing optimal dosing of beta-lactam antibiotics in therapy for bacterial meningitis: off the entry of passage of antibiotics into CSF, (2) the antimicrobial activity of beta-lactams within the purulent CSF in vivo, (3) the bactericidal activity within the CSF, (4) the route and mode of drug administration together with the postantibiotic effect, and (5) the duration of therapy."2.37Rationale for optimal dosing of beta-lactam antibiotics in therapy for bacterial meningitis. ( Scheld, WM, 1984)
"This relapse is postulated to be due to localized cerebral vasculitis which was not treated for a sufficient period of time during the initial course of therapy."1.26Relapse of Hemophilus influenzae type b meningitis after combined antibiotic therapy: report of a case. ( Feldman, WE; Laupus, WE; Ledaal, P, 1976)
