penicillamine and Thiamine Deficiency

penicillamine has been researched along with Thiamine Deficiency in 3 studies

Penicillamine: 3-Mercapto-D-valine. The most characteristic degradation product of the penicillin antibiotics. It is used as an antirheumatic and as a chelating agent in Wilson's disease.
penicillamine : An alpha-amino acid having the structure of valine substituted at the beta position with a sulfanyl group.

Thiamine Deficiency: A nutritional condition produced by a deficiency of THIAMINE in the diet, characterized by anorexia, irritability, and weight loss. Later, patients experience weakness, peripheral neuropathy, headache, and tachycardia. In addition to being caused by a poor diet, thiamine deficiency in the United States most commonly occurs as a result of alcoholism, since ethanol interferes with thiamine absorption. In countries relying on polished rice as a dietary staple, BERIBERI prevalence is very high. (From Cecil Textbook of Medicine, 19th ed, p1171)

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"A chronic vitamin B6 deficiency in rats resulted in a non-specific increase (44- 51%) in the in vitro intestinal uptake of both essential (Ca and Zn) and non-essential toxic metal (Cd) ions, whereas an acute B6-deficient state only affected the Zn uptake rate."1.26Effect of vitamin B6 and B1 deficiencies on the intestinal uptake of calcium, zinc and cadmium.
