Therapy for prolonged renal bleeding related to sickle cell disease can be challenging. We review the treatment of a woman with a 4-week history of renal bleeding thought to be due to sickle cell trait. The hemorrhage ceased immediately following irrigation of the involved kidney with oxychlorosene. Before radical surgery is performed for this problem this relatively simple approach should be considered. Further documentation of the efficacy and safety is necessary before advocating this modality for routine use.
