nortriptyline and Diabetic Neuropathies

nortriptyline has been researched along with Diabetic Neuropathies in 8 studies

Nortriptyline: A metabolite of AMITRIPTYLINE that is also used as an antidepressive agent. Nortriptyline is used in major depression, dysthymia, and atypical depressions.
nortriptyline : An organic tricyclic compound that is 10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d][7]annulene substituted by a 3-(methylamino)propylidene group at position 5. It is an active metabolite of amitriptyline.

Diabetic Neuropathies: Peripheral, autonomic, and cranial nerve disorders that are associated with DIABETES MELLITUS. These conditions usually result from diabetic microvascular injury involving small blood vessels that supply nerves (VASA NERVORUM). Relatively common conditions which may be associated with diabetic neuropathy include third nerve palsy (see OCULOMOTOR NERVE DISEASES); MONONEUROPATHY; mononeuropathy multiplex; diabetic amyotrophy; a painful POLYNEUROPATHY; autonomic neuropathy; and thoracoabdominal neuropathy. Research Excerpts

"Physicians caring for patients with CSPN should consider mexiletine to address pain and fatigue, although nortriptyline and duloxetine are better medications to trial first since they are better tolerated."5.51A secondary analysis of PAIN-CONTRoLS: Pain's impact on sleep, fatigue, and activities of daily living. ( Barohn, RJ; Bhai, SF; Brown, A; Gajewski, B; Kimminau, KS; Pasnoor, M; Waitman, LR, 2022)
"A controlled clinical trial on the efficacy of a nortriptyline-fluphenazine combination was carried out in patients with painful diabetic polyneuropathy."5.05Nortriptyline and fluphenazine in the symptomatic treatment of diabetic neuropathy. A double-blind cross-over study. ( Dies, H; Gomez-Perez, FJ; Gonzalez-Barranco, J; Lozano-Castañeda, O; Rodriguez-Rivera, GJ; Rull, JA, 1985)
"Despite many therapeutic options, painful diabetic neuropathy is still a common and challenging complication of diabetes mellitus and is often resistant to treatment with current modalities."2.74Vitamin B12 may be more effective than nortriptyline in improving painful diabetic neuropathy. ( Chehrei, A; Majidi, H; Siavash, M; Talaei, A, 2009)
"One of its consequences is neuropathic pain which is often chronic and difficult to treat."1.40The antiallodynic action of nortriptyline and terbutaline is mediated by β(2) adrenoceptors and δ opioid receptors in the ob/ob model of diabetic polyneuropathy. ( Barrot, M; Choucair-Jaafar, N; Freund-Mercier, MJ; Salvat, E, 2014)
"The basis of the treatment of painful diabetic neuropathy is the use of drugs that block the transmission of pain (antineuritics) and a good metabolic control of underlying disease."1.33[Intensified insulin therapy plus antineuritic medication is more effective than antineuritics alone in painful diabetic neuropathy].
