nitrous oxide and Femoral Neck Fractures

nitrous oxide has been researched along with Femoral Neck Fractures in 6 studies

Nitrous Oxide: Nitrogen oxide (N2O). A colorless, odorless gas that is used as an anesthetic and analgesic. High concentrations cause a narcotic effect and may replace oxygen, causing death by asphyxia. It is also used as a food aerosol in the preparation of whipping cream.
dinitrogen oxide : A nitrogen oxide consisting of linear unsymmetrical molecules with formula N2O. While it is the most used gaseous anaesthetic in the world, its major commercial use, due to its solubility under pressure in vegetable fats combined with its non-toxicity in low concentrations, is as an aerosol spray propellant and aerating agent for canisters of 'whipped' cream.

Femoral Neck Fractures: Fractures of the short, constricted portion of the thigh bone between the femur head and the trochanters. It excludes intertrochanteric fractures which are HIP FRACTURES.

Research Excerpts

" In spinal anaesthesia hypotension of clinical importance was observed coincidentally with the use of methylmethacrylate, while the levels of plasma cortisol remained unchanged."5.06The effect of anaesthesia on changes in blood pressure and plasma cortisol levels induced by cementation with methylmethacrylate. ( Lehtinen, AM; Svartling, N; Tarkkanen, L, 1986)
"Ketamine was found to reduce early mortality principally by a reduction in thromboembolic complications, but at the expense of more unsatisfactory surgical results."2.65Anaesthetic techniques for surgical correction of fractured neck of femur. A comparative study of ketamine and relaxant anaesthesia in elderly women. ( Spreadbury, TH, 1980)
