nitroglycerin and CBS Deficiency

nitroglycerin has been researched along with CBS Deficiency in 2 studies

Nitroglycerin: A volatile vasodilator which relieves ANGINA PECTORIS by stimulating GUANYLATE CYCLASE and lowering cytosolic calcium. It is also sometimes used for TOCOLYSIS and explosives.
nitroglycerol : A nitrate ester that is glycerol in which nitro group(s) replace the hydrogen(s) attached to one or more of the hydroxy groups.
nitroglycerin : A nitroglycerol that is glycerol in which the hydrogen atoms of all three hydroxy groups are replaced by nitro groups. It acts as a prodrug, releasing nitric oxide to open blood vessels and so alleviate heart pain.

"Homocystinuria is strongly associated with premature vascular disease in homozygotes, and even heterozygotes have been shown to be at increased risk from early atherosclerosis associated with hyperhomocystinemia."1.29Impaired endothelial function occurs in the systemic arteries of children with homozygous homocystinuria but not in their heterozygous parents. Trial Outcomes

Change in Flow Mediated Dilation

Flow-mediated dilation of the brachial artery will be measured using high-resolution ultrasound. Arterial diameter will be measured above the small cavity in the elbow joint from ultrasound images at rest in response to an increase in blood flow to the area. (NCT00211081)
Timeframe: Baseline, Post-Intervention (4 Weeks)

InterventionPercentage of brachial artery diameter (Mean)
Spironolactone5.5

C-Reactive Protein Level

The normal reference range for C-reactive protein is as follows: CRP: 0-10mg/L (NCT00211081)
Timeframe: Baseline, Post-Intervention (4 Weeks)
