nitrites has been researched along with Meningitis, Pneumococcal in 4 studies
Nitrites: Salts of nitrous acid or compounds containing the group NO2-. The inorganic nitrites of the type MNO2 (where M=metal) are all insoluble, except the alkali nitrites. The organic nitrites may be isomeric, but not identical with the corresponding nitro compounds. (Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed)
Meningitis, Pneumococcal: An acute purulent infection of the meninges and subarachnoid space caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, most prevalent in children and adults over the age of 60. This illness may be associated with OTITIS MEDIA; MASTOIDITIS; SINUSITIS; RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS; sickle cell disease (ANEMIA, SICKLE CELL); skull fractures; and other disorders. Clinical manifestations include FEVER; HEADACHE; neck stiffness; and somnolence followed by SEIZURES; focal neurologic deficits (notably DEAFNESS); and COMA. (From Miller et al., Merritt's Textbook of Neurology, 9th ed, p111)

"To elucidate the role of bradykinin in the complex pathophysiology of bacterial meningitis we investigated the effect of the bradykinin B2 receptor antagonist Hoe140, icatibant (D-Arg[Hyp3-Thi5-D-Tic7-Oic8]-bradykinin), on pathophysiological alterations in experimental pneumococcal meningitis." | 7.69 | Effect of the bradykinin B2 receptor antagonist Hoe140 in experimental pneumococcal meningitis in the rat. "We investigated whether treatment with the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor N-nitro-L-arginine (L-NA) and the free radical scavenger superoxide dismutase influences cerebral blood flow changes, brain edema, and cerebrospinal fluid pleocytosis in early experimental pneumococcal meningitis." | 3.69 | Experimental pneumococcal meningitis: cerebrovascular alterations, brain edema, and meningeal inflammation are linked to the production of nitric oxide. ( Bernatowicz, A; Fontana, A; Frei, K; Koedel, U; Paul, R; Pfister, HW, 1995) |
