niacinamide and Ventricular Fibrillation

niacinamide has been researched along with Ventricular Fibrillation in 9 studies

nicotinamide : A pyridinecarboxamide that is pyridine in which the hydrogen at position 3 is replaced by a carboxamide group.

Ventricular Fibrillation: A potentially lethal cardiac arrhythmia that is characterized by uncoordinated extremely rapid firing of electrical impulses (400-600/min) in HEART VENTRICLES. Such asynchronous ventricular quivering or fibrillation prevents any effective cardiac output and results in unconsciousness (SYNCOPE). It is one of the major electrocardiographic patterns seen with CARDIAC ARREST.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"This study was designed (a) to test and (b) to compare proarrhythmic effects of levcromakalim and nicorandil; and (c) determine the mechanism of arrhythmia initiation by using high-resolution ventricular epicardial mapping on 44 Langendorff-perfused rabbit hearts."3.69Comparison of proarrhythmogenic effects of two potassium channel openers, levcromakalim (BRL 38227) and nicorandil (RP 46417): a high-resolution mapping study on rabbit heart. ( Aya, G; de La Coussaye, JE; Delye, B; Eledjam, JJ; Juan, JM; Péray, P; Robert, E; Sassine, A, 1997)
"Nicorandil is a clinically used nitrovasodilator that has a property as an opener of ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in vitro."1.29Nicorandil augments regional ischemia-induced monophasic action potential shortening and potassium accumulation without serious proarrhythmia. ( Asanagi, M; Mitamura, H; Miyazaki, T; Miyoshi, S; Moritani, K; Ogawa, S; Zhao, LS, 1995)
