niacin and Neuroses

niacin has been researched along with Neuroses in 11 studies

Niacin: A water-soluble vitamin of the B complex occurring in various animal and plant tissues. It is required by the body for the formation of coenzymes NAD and NADP. It has PELLAGRA-curative, vasodilating, and antilipemic properties.
vitamin B3 : Any member of a group of vitamers that belong to the chemical structural class called pyridines that exhibit biological activity against vitamin B3 deficiency. Vitamin B3 deficiency causes a condition known as pellagra whose symptoms include depression, dermatitis and diarrhea. The vitamers include nicotinic acid and nicotinamide (and their ionized and salt forms).
nicotinic acid : A pyridinemonocarboxylic acid that is pyridine in which the hydrogen at position 3 is replaced by a carboxy group.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Two female patients, one treated for epilepsy by phenobarbital (PB) and carbamazepine (CBZ), the other suffering from neurosis and free of any drug therapy, were given group B vitamins (riboflavin and nicotinic acid respectively) and showed during the long-term administration of these vitamins 2-3 Hz generalized electro-encephalographic (EEG) abnormalities."3.67[Appearance of EEG abnormalities in two patients during long-term treatment with B vitamins]. ( Albani, F; Gastaut, H; Gobbi, G; Santanelli, P, 1988)
"Pellagra was once a major cause of three behaviorally different mental disorders-schizophreniform, manic-depressive-like, and phobic neurotic - plus drying dermatoses, autonomic neuropathies, tinnitus, and fatigue."1.26The major psychoses and neuroses as omega-3 essential fatty acid deficiency syndrome: substrate pellagra.
