muscimol and Nervous System Diseases

muscimol has been researched along with Nervous System Diseases in 2 studies

Muscimol: A neurotoxic isoxazole isolated from species of AMANITA. It is obtained by decarboxylation of IBOTENIC ACID. Muscimol is a potent agonist of GABA-A RECEPTORS and is used mainly as an experimental tool in animal and tissue studies.
muscimol : A member of the class of isoxazoles that is 1,2-oxazol-3(2H)-one substituted by an aminomethyl group at position 5. It has been isolated from mushrooms of the genus Amanita.

Nervous System Diseases: Diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. This includes disorders of the brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves, peripheral nerves, nerve roots, autonomic nervous system, neuromuscular junction, and muscle.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The effects of N-(2,6-dimethyl-phenyl)-2-(2-oxo-1-pyrrolidinyl)acetamide (DM-9384), a cyclic derivative of GABA, were investigated and compared with those of aniracetam in an animal model of amnesia, using a passive avoidance task with animals that have GABAergic neuronal dysfunctions."3.68Effects of DM-9384 in a model of amnesia based on animals with GABAergic neuronal dysfunctions. ( Itoh, J; Kameyama, T; Nabeshima, T; Noda, Y; Tohyama, K, 1990)
"The onset of tremors and convulsions, which occur as pressure is increased, were used as endpoints for assessing the onset and severity of the HPNS."1.27Interactions of gamma-aminobutyric acid and noradrenaline in the high pressure neurological syndrome.
