[Study on motilin and spleen-yin deficiency].
Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 1994, Volume: 14, Issue:11

The Plasma motilin level in 44 cases patients with Spleen-Yin deficiency (SYD) was observed and compared with Spleen-Qi Insufficiency (SQI), the normal control group. SYD patients were treated using self-made Shen Rou Yang Zhen Tang oral liquor. The results showed that plasma motilin level was higher significantly than that of the control group (P < 0.01), but was remarkably lower than that of SQI. The difference was significant among the three groups (P < 0.01). The abnormal incidence of positive plasma motilin was 65.91% and 75.00% respectively. It is conjectured that the plasma motilin level in SYD was related to excitability of vagus nerve, disturbance of gastro-intestinal internal environment, indigestion and malabsorption of GI tract.

[Effect of sijunzi decoction on motilin and pharmacokinetic characteristics of tetramethylpyrazine in rat model of spleen deficiency syndrome].
Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 1997, Volume: 17, Issue:1

To explore relationship between the essence of Spleen Deficiency Syndrome (SDS) and pharmacokinetic characteristics (PK).. The level of motilin in serum and intestine, and PK of tetramethylpyrazine phosphate (TMPP) in rat model of SDS were observed simultaneously and treated with Sijunzi decoction (SJZD) for confirmation.. The atrioventricular model of TMPP in SDS, normal and SJZD treated rats all belonged to the open double ventricular type; there were insignificant differences between normal and SJZD treated rats in motilin level and PK of TMPP, but the differences of these parameters between normal and SDS model rats were significantly (P < 0.01). The SDS state could markedly affect the absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of TMPP in rat; SJZD could normalize the abnormal PK of TMPP in SDS model rats.. A supplementary scientific evidence for the hypothesis of "Pharmacokinetics of Syndrome Differentiation" is provided.

[Gastric motility in patients with spleen-deficiency symptoms].
Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 1994, Volume: 14, Issue:6

By using a method for synchronously-detecting gastric myoelectric activity and intraluminal pressure and a radioimmunoassay of plasmic motilin, gastric motility, plasmic level of motilin and their relationship in 12 normal individuals and in the patients with a variety of Spleen-Deficiency (SD) Syndromes, i.e. 12 SD with Cold type (H type), 7 SD with Stomach-Yin-Deficiency type(I type), 38 SD with Heat type (R type) and 6 SD with Liver-Qi-Stagnation type (U Type) were investigated. The results showed: degree of myoelectric dysrhythmia and rate of electro-mechanical decouple in all patients (except for I type) were much higher than those in the normals (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05); both mean frequency and amplitude of contraction in the patients were decreased; percentage of contractive action in the patients (except for I type) was lower than that in the normals (P < 0.05); plasmic level of motilin in the patients (except for I type) had a tendency to increase and had a linear correlation to degree of myoelectric dysrhythmia (r = 0.33, P < 0.01). It was suggested that some significant disorders of gastric motility exist in different SD patients and there might be an intrinsic cause effect relationship among increased plasmic motilin, myoelectric dysrhythmia and abnormal mechanical motion. The similar changes suggested that there is pathophysiological mechanism of SD syndrome. Furthermore, this synchronously-detecting method was useful to discover intrinsic relationship between gastric myoelectric activity and mechanical motion.

[Determination of blood hormone levels in patients with "spleen deficiency" syndrome after major operations].
Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 1992, Volume: 12, Issue:4

The character of "Spleen Deficiency" (SD) Syndrome was evaluated by determination of the blood levels of various gastroenteropancreatic hormones and thyroid hormone. Patients of SD group were diagnosed clinically by Syndrome Differentiation, and those of the normal group were volunteer blood donors. RIA was used to determine all the hormones except T3RUR.. TT3, FT3 of the SD group were very significantly lower than that of normal group (P less than 0.001). The levels of rT3 in SD group were significantly higher than normal control (P less than 0.05). For TT4, T3RUR and FT4, there were no significant differences between the two groups. Among the gastroenteropancreatic hormones, gastrin in the SD group was significantly lower than that of the normal group (P less than 0.01), motilin was very significantly higher (P less than 0.002). The value of pp was similar in the two groups, under physiological conditions, however, in adults the hormone tended to increase with age. Since the average age of patients in the SD group was 54.9, and that of the normal group was 38.5, remarkably lower values were seen in the SD group. Other hormones such as VIP, SST, glucagon and insulin were of no significant difference between the two groups. The result showed that thyroid hormone and some of gastroenteric hormones in the blood of patients with SD after major operations were quite different from normal, and was common to patients with general SD Syndrome, with low T3 syndrome.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
