[Study on motilin and spleen-yin deficiency].
Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 1994, Volume: 14, Issue:11

The Plasma motilin level in 44 cases patients with Spleen-Yin deficiency (SYD) was observed and compared with Spleen-Qi Insufficiency (SQI), the normal control group. SYD patients were treated using self-made Shen Rou Yang Zhen Tang oral liquor. The results showed that plasma motilin level was higher significantly than that of the control group (P < 0.01), but was remarkably lower than that of SQI. The difference was significant among the three groups (P < 0.01). The abnormal incidence of positive plasma motilin was 65.91% and 75.00% respectively. It is conjectured that the plasma motilin level in SYD was related to excitability of vagus nerve, disturbance of gastro-intestinal internal environment, indigestion and malabsorption of GI tract.

The Relations Among Serum Ghrelin, Motilin and Gastric Emptying and Autonomic Function in Autoimmune Gastritis.
The American journal of the medical sciences, 2018, Volume: 355, Issue:5

Gastric emptying (GE) of solids is delayed and autonomic dysfunction is detected in autoimmune gastritis (AIG). The goals of this study were to: (1) compare serum levels of ghrelin and motilin in subjects with delayed and normal GE and (2) investigate whether circulating antimyenteric antibodies (CAA), serum ghrelin levels and motilin levels have any effect on autonomic function.. Noninvasive cardiovascular reflex tests were used in order to evaluate the autonomic function. GE was evaluated by a standard 2-hour scintigraphic test. Serum ghrelin and motilin levels were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and CAA were tested by immunofluorescence.. The serum ghrelin and motilin levels in the patients with delayed GE (n = 22) were significantly decreased compared to the normal GE patients (n = 19), (67.55 ± 8.81 versus 126.79 ± 25.81pg/mL, P < 0.001 and 279.59 ± 111.12 versus 500.42 ± 155.95pg/mL, respectively, P < 0.001). Whereas, the serum ghrelin and motilin levels in the patients with deranged autonomic function (n = 26) were significantly decreased compared to the patients with normal autonomic function (n = 15), (80.73 ± 28.46 versus 127.79 ± 28.06pg/mL, P < 0.001 and 316.92 ± 160.47 versus 490.20 ± 141.02pg/mL, P < 0.001, respectively).  None of the patients were positive for CAA.. Ghrelin and motilin levels in AIG subjects with delayed GE and deranged autonomic function were significantly decreased. The decrease in serum ghrelin and plasma motilin levels in AIG suggest their potential role in the delayed GE observed in these subjects.

[Clinical study on effect of hewei capsule on promoting gastric dynamics].
Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 2001, Volume: 21, Issue:7

To investigate the effect of Hewei capsule (HWC) on gastric dynamics.. Sixty-two patients with dysmotility-like functional dyspepsia (DFD) were included in the study. The principal symptoms, electrogastrogram (EGG), plasma motilin (MTL), serum gastrin (Gas) and nitric oxide (NO) of the patients were the chief parameters observed before and after treatment.. There were arrhythmia of EGG, deficiency of MTL, Gas and NO in the patients with DFD, and these abnormal changes could be improved significantly by treating with HWC.. The abnormal gastric dynamics of the patients with DFD could be improved by HWC through multiple pathways.

[Effect of Saussurea lappa on gastric functions].
Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 1994, Volume: 14, Issue:7

The patients with chronic superficial gastritis were selected in the study. The variation in gastric acidity output, serum gastrin and plasma somatostatin concentration were observed during the Saussurea lappa decoction (SLD) perfusion into the stomach. There was no significant changes in acidity output, serum gastrin and plasma somatostatin concentration after the perfusion of SLD (P > 0.05). Changes in gastric emptying and plasma motilin concentration were observed after oral administration of the SLD in 5 healthy volunteers. The time of gastric emptying was markedly shortened after oral administration of SLD (P < 0.01). A significant increase occurred in plasma motilin concentration at 30 min. after oral administration of SLD (P < 0.01). It revealed that SLD could accelerate the gastric emptying and increase the endogenous motilin release.
