Exploration of Tuina Effect and Mechanism in Chronic Atrophic Gastritis Rats.
The Turkish journal of gastroenterology : the official journal of Turkish Society of Gastroenterology, 2022, Volume: 33, Issue:6

Chronic atrophic gastritis is a very common condition in the general clinical practice of gastroenterology. Tuina treatment is widely used clinically. The aim of our study was to investigate the mechanisms of tuina in rats with chronic atrophic gastritis.. Fifty-six specific pathogen-free grade rats were employed for our study. They were divided into 5 groups and treated differ- ently. Body weight was recorded every week, and their small intestine propulsive ratio was measured after intragastric administration of carbon powder. Histopathological observation of gastric tissues was performed using hematoxylin and eosin staining. The levels of motilin and gastrin in serum were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the expression levels of Bcl-2 and cytochrome C were measured by the western blot assay.. There was no significant difference in body weight and small intestine propulsive ratio between the chronic atrophic gastritis model group and the tuina group (P > .05). However, we can see some significant changes in histomorphology after treatment with tuina. For example, the atrophy of gastric mucosal epithelium and glands had improved, and the inflammatory cells infiltrating the lamina propria were decreased significantly. Moreover, the level of gastrointestinal hormone GAS was increased (P < .001), and there was no statistically significant difference in motilin, Bcl-2, and cytochrome-c after treatment with tuina (P > .05).. Our research demonstrated the effectiveness of tuina treatment on chronic atrophic gastritis with a possible underlying mechanism that affected the secretion of gastric acid, which could provide some useful information for clinical application.

[Clinical study on effect of hewei capsule on promoting gastric dynamics].
Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 2001, Volume: 21, Issue:7

To investigate the effect of Hewei capsule (HWC) on gastric dynamics.. Sixty-two patients with dysmotility-like functional dyspepsia (DFD) were included in the study. The principal symptoms, electrogastrogram (EGG), plasma motilin (MTL), serum gastrin (Gas) and nitric oxide (NO) of the patients were the chief parameters observed before and after treatment.. There were arrhythmia of EGG, deficiency of MTL, Gas and NO in the patients with DFD, and these abnormal changes could be improved significantly by treating with HWC.. The abnormal gastric dynamics of the patients with DFD could be improved by HWC through multiple pathways.

Influence of gastric acid secretion on interdigestive gastric motor activity and serum motilin in the elderly.
    Digestion, 1987, Volume: 38, Issue:4

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of gastric secretion on the interdigestive gastric motor activity and related serum motilin variations in elderly subjects. The study was carried out on two groups of elderly subjects: one with achlorhydria or marked hypochlorhydria due to chronic atrophic gastritis and the other with normal acid secretion. A group of nonelderly subjects with normal acid secretion was also examined as control. Gastric motility was studied manometrically and serum motilin was measured by radioimmunoassay on blood samples taken every 15 min during the entire motor recording period of 200-300 min. Both groups of elderly subjects showed (1) alterations in interdigestive gastric motility and (2) serum motilin which was steadily high without the normal cyclic fluctuations. These studies suggest that the alterations in gastric motor activity and serum motilin in aged subjects are not related to the acid secretory capacity of the stomach. Other factors, such as alterations in the neurohormonal control system of gut motility, should be considered in the genesis of these age-related disorders.
