metyrapone and Intraocular Pressure

metyrapone has been researched along with Intraocular Pressure in 4 studies

Metyrapone: An inhibitor of the enzyme STEROID 11-BETA-MONOOXYGENASE. It is used as a test of the feedback hypothalamic-pituitary mechanism in the diagnosis of CUSHING SYNDROME.
metyrapone : An aromatic ketone that is 3,3-dimethylbutan-2-one in which the methyl groups at positions 1 and 4 are replaced by pyridin-3-yl groups. A steroid 11beta-monooxygenase (EC 1.14.15.4) inhibitor, it is used in the diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency.

Intraocular Pressure: The pressure of the fluids in the eye.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"To examine the effect of a decrease in plasma cortisol level on intraocular pressure, 14 subjects with elevated ocular pressure were given oral metyrapone tartrate (an inhibitor of adrenal cortisol biosynthesis) and a placebo in a double-masked, two-period, crossover trial."5.06Decrease of ocular pressure with oral metyrapone. A double-masked crossover trial. ( Levi, L; Schwartz, B, 1987)
" This dosage resulted in partial adrenal suppression, manifested by reduced levels of plasma cortisol."1.26Topical corticosteroid therapy and pituitary-adrenal function. ( Becker, B; Krupin, T; Mandell, AI; Podos, SM, 1976)
