metronidazole has been researched along with Flatus in 4 studies
Metronidazole: A nitroimidazole used to treat AMEBIASIS; VAGINITIS; TRICHOMONAS INFECTIONS; GIARDIASIS; ANAEROBIC BACTERIA; and TREPONEMAL INFECTIONS.
metronidazole : A member of the class of imidazoles substituted at C-1, -2 and -5 with 2-hydroxyethyl, nitro and methyl groups respectively. It has activity against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, and has a radiosensitising effect on hypoxic tumour cells. It may be given by mouth in tablets, or as the benzoate in an oral suspension. The hydrochloride salt can be used in intravenous infusions. Metronidazole is a prodrug and is selective for anaerobic bacteria due to their ability to intracellularly reduce the nitro group of metronidazole to give nitroso-containing intermediates. These can covalently bind to DNA, disrupting its helical structure, inducing DNA strand breaks and inhibiting bacterial nucleic acid synthesis, ultimately resulting in bacterial cell death.

"Our results show a promising trend indicating that metronidazole might significantly improve flatus incontinence associated with SIBO and might be more successful in treating flatus incontinence than gas absorbents." | 5.24 | Efficacy of antibiotherapy for treating flatus incontinence associated with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth: A pilot randomized trial. "In a double-blind, cross-over trial with metronidazole (Flagyl) 400 mg twice daily and placebo given to suitably adjusted ileostomy operated patients during two week periods, no significant reduction could be demonstrated in gaseous discomfort as measured by the number of bag emptyings per day, as well as gaseous symptoms in the form of the passage of flatulence from the stoma and borborygmi." | 5.06 | Metronidazole versus placebo in the treatment of gaseous discomfort in patients having an ileostomy.
