[Basal ganglion bleeding after the surgical decompression of the craniovertebral junction].
A case of postoperative haemorrhage into the basal ganglia following decompression of the craniovertebral junction in a 35-year-old patient is presented. Similar cases in the literature of intracerebral bleeding remote from the site of surgery are reviewed and the possible pathogenesis of this unusual complication discussed. Topics: Adult; Basal Ganglia Diseases; Cerebellar Diseases; Cerebral Hemorrhage; Cervical Vertebrae; Humans; Male; Metrizamide; Myelography; Postoperative Complications; Prolapse; Skull; Tomography, X-Ray Computed | 1990 |
[Cranial computed tomography: possibilities and limitations].

Multiple subcortical haemorrhages following lumbar metrizamide myelography.
The case is presented of a patient showing multiple subcortical haemorrhages after lumbar metrizamide myelography. This complication after intrathecally administered metrizamide contrast medium appears not to have been reported before. Several different possible explanations are proposed for the phenomena observed in this case. Topics: Back Pain; Cerebral Hemorrhage; Electroencephalography; Epilepsy; Hemiplegia; Humans; Lumbosacral Region; Male; Metrizamide; Middle Aged; Myelography; Tomography, X-Ray Computed | 1987 |
Hemorrhagic complications after the lumbar injection of chymopapain.
There are few reports of hemorrhagic central nervous system complications after chymopapain injection in humans. Two patients are reported who developed hemorrhagic complications after the lumbar injection of chymopapain. The first developed a hemorrhagic encephalomyelopathy followed by clinically suspected acute arachnoiditis, which responded to high doses of dexamethasone. The second patient developed subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to vertebral artery aneurysm rupture after the injection of chymopapain. Topics: Adult; Arachnoiditis; Cerebral Hemorrhage; Chymopapain; Diatrizoate Meglumine; Drug Interactions; Endopeptidases; Hemorrhage; Humans; Intervertebral Disc Displacement; Iothalamate Meglumine; Male; Metrizamide; Spinal Cord Diseases; Subarachnoid Hemorrhage | 1985 |
Dynamics of cerebrospinal fluid circulation evaluated by metrizamide CT cisternography.
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation has been analyzed by metrizamide computed tomography (CT) cisternography in 46 patients. Included were 7 patients without any clinical evidence of impaired CSF circulation, and 39 with hydrocephalus due to various causes. CT cisternography delineated the anatomical structures of the CSF pathways clearly and accurately and enabled us to analyze ventricular filling in a quantitative manner. As a result, a new, more precise CT cisternographic classification of the CSF flow patterns has been established. On the basis of the presence of ventricular reflux and stasis, extent of ventricular filling, and convexity flow of metrizamide, seven groups of flow patterns have been defined. Topics: Adult; Aged; Brain; Brain Diseases; Cerebral Aqueduct; Cerebral Hemorrhage; Cerebral Ventriculography; Cerebrospinal Fluid; Child; Child, Preschool; Female; Humans; Hydrocephalus; Male; Metrizamide; Middle Aged; Tomography, X-Ray Computed | 1979 |
