methadone and Nervous System Disorders

methadone has been researched along with Nervous System Disorders in 9 studies

Methadone: A synthetic opioid that is used as the hydrochloride. It is an opioid analgesic that is primarily a mu-opioid agonist. It has actions and uses similar to those of MORPHINE. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p1082-3)
methadone : A racemate comprising equimolar amounts of dextromethadone and levomethadone. It is a opioid analgesic which is used as a painkiller and as a substitute for heroin in the treatment of heroin addiction.
6-(dimethylamino)-4,4-diphenylheptan-3-one : A ketone that is heptan-3-one substituted by a dimethylamino group at position 6 and two phenyl groups at position 4.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" Analgesic effects (lowered maximum pain intensity and increased pain relief, on the day of dosing only) were also seen when the lower daily dose of 10 mg methadone (given as 5 mg bd) was used, but these failed to reach statistical significance (P = 0."2.71Low-dose methadone has an analgesic effect in neuropathic pain: a double-blind randomized controlled crossover trial. ( Bridson, J; Makin, MK; Miles, JB; Morley, JS; Nash, TP; White, S, 2003)
" Narcotics are used for the euphoria they provide; however, chronic use results in physiological and psychological changes."2.37Narcotic withdrawal in the emergency department. ( Freitas, PM, 1985)
"Parenteral substance abuse is widespread."1.27Primary care of parenteral substance abusers. ( Williams, A, 1986)
