metformin and Carcinoma, Lewis Lung

metformin has been researched along with Carcinoma, Lewis Lung in 7 studies

Metformin: A biguanide hypoglycemic agent used in the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus not responding to dietary modification. Metformin improves glycemic control by improving insulin sensitivity and decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p289)
metformin : A member of the class of guanidines that is biguanide the carrying two methyl substituents at position 1.

Carcinoma, Lewis Lung: A carcinoma discovered by Dr. Margaret R. Lewis of the Wistar Institute in 1951. This tumor originated spontaneously as a carcinoma of the lung of a C57BL mouse. The tumor does not appear to be grossly hemorrhagic and the majority of the tumor tissue is a semifirm homogeneous mass. (From Cancer Chemother Rep 2 1972 Nov;(3)1:325) It is also called 3LL and LLC and is used as a transplantable malignancy.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"We investigated the effects of metformin on the growth of lewis lung LLC1 carcinoma in C57BL/6J mice provided with either a control diet or a high-energy diet, previously reported to lead to weight gain and systemic insulin resistance with hyperinsulinemia."3.74Metformin attenuates the stimulatory effect of a high-energy diet on in vivo LLC1 carcinoma growth. ( Algire, C; Blouin, MJ; Pollak, M; Shuai, JH; Zakikhani, M, 2008)
"Metformin greatly reduced the number of metastases of Lewis lung cancer without affecting tumor growth."1.42Metformin prevents cancer metastasis by inhibiting M2-like polarization of tumor associated macrophages. ( Chen, H; Ding, L; He, Q; Liang, G; Liu, R; Wu, H; Yang, B; Yao, Z; Zhang, J; Zhou, Y, 2015)
"In the absence of hyperinsulinemia, metformin inhibited only the growth of tumors transfected with short hairpin RNA against LKB1, a finding attributable neither to an effect on host insulin level nor to activation of AMPK within the tumor."1.37Diet and tumor LKB1 expression interact to determine sensitivity to anti-neoplastic effects of metformin in vivo. ( Algire, C; Amrein, L; Bazile, M; David, S; Pollak, M; Zakikhani, M, 2011)
