mercaptoethanol and Muscle Contraction

mercaptoethanol has been researched along with Muscle Contraction in 10 studies

Mercaptoethanol: A water-soluble thiol derived from hydrogen sulfide and ethanol. It is used as a reducing agent for disulfide bonds and to protect sulfhydryl groups from oxidation.

Muscle Contraction: A process leading to shortening and/or development of tension in muscle tissue. Muscle contraction occurs by a sliding filament mechanism whereby actin filaments slide inward among the myosin filaments.

"The addition of 1 X 10(-3) M or 1 X 10(-2) M 2-mercaptoethanol (2-MEt), a sulfhydryl reagent, produced a leftward displacement (potentiation) of the dose-response curves of mesenteric arterial strips for histamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, angiotensin II, prostaglandin F2 alpha and KCl."1.27Alterations in pharmacological receptor activities of rabbit arteries by sulfhydryl reagents.
