mepivacaine and Migraine Disorders

mepivacaine has been researched along with Migraine Disorders in 3 studies

Mepivacaine: A local anesthetic that is chemically related to BUPIVACAINE but pharmacologically related to LIDOCAINE. It is indicated for infiltration, nerve block, and epidural anesthesia. Mepivacaine is effective topically only in large doses and therefore should not be used by this route. (From AMA Drug Evaluations, 1994, p168)
mepivacaine : A piperidinecarboxamide in which N-methylpipecolic acid and 2,6-dimethylaniline have combined to form the amide bond. It is used as a local amide-type anaesthetic.

Migraine Disorders: A class of disabling primary headache disorders, characterized by recurrent unilateral pulsatile headaches. The two major subtypes are common migraine (without aura) and classic migraine (with aura or neurological symptoms). (International Classification of Headache Disorders, 2nd ed. Cephalalgia 2004: suppl 1)

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The incidence of the migraine-attacks decreased in both groups to an average of less than 6 to less than 1 per month, most of the (first) intervals of freedom from attacks lasted 1/2-3/4 of a year and extended to 1 year and more if the treatment was continued; about no more nausea and/or vomiting was reported."1.26[Treatment of migrain blanche and ophthalmique with blocks of the superior cervical ganglion. A positive study on 84 patients (author's transl)]. ( Harder, HJ, 1981)
