mepivacaine and Equine Diseases

mepivacaine has been researched along with Equine Diseases in 30 studies

Mepivacaine: A local anesthetic that is chemically related to BUPIVACAINE but pharmacologically related to LIDOCAINE. It is indicated for infiltration, nerve block, and epidural anesthesia. Mepivacaine is effective topically only in large doses and therefore should not be used by this route. (From AMA Drug Evaluations, 1994, p168)
mepivacaine : A piperidinecarboxamide in which N-methylpipecolic acid and 2,6-dimethylaniline have combined to form the amide bond. It is used as a local amide-type anaesthetic.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" A randomly selected compartment of 1 stifle joint was then injected with IL-1β to induce synovitis and lameness; subsequently, the same compartment was anesthetized with 2% mepivacaine hydrochloride, and lameness was reevaluated."3.80Effect of anesthetizing individual compartments of the stifle joint in horses with experimentally induced stifle joint lameness. ( Hecht, S; Schramme, MC; Schumacher, J; Tóth, F, 2014)
"Cyproheptadine alone was ineffective but the addition of carbamazepine resulted in 80-100% improvement in 80% of cases."1.31Headshaking in horses: possible aetiopathogenesis suggested by the results of diagnostic tests and several treatment regimes used in 20 cases.
