menthol and Glioblastoma

menthol has been researched along with Glioblastoma in 2 studies

Menthol: A monoterpene cyclohexanol produced from mint oils.

Glioblastoma: A malignant form of astrocytoma histologically characterized by pleomorphism of cells, nuclear atypia, microhemorrhage, and necrosis. They may arise in any region of the central nervous system, with a predilection for the cerebral hemispheres, basal ganglia, and commissural pathways. Clinical presentation most frequently occurs in the fifth or sixth decade of life with focal neurologic signs or seizures.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"This study examined the effect of menthol, an agonist for transient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8) ion channels, to increase intracellular Ca2+ concentration, [Ca2+]i, in human glioblastoma cells (DBTRG cells), which resulted in activation of the large-conductance Ca2+-activated K+ membrane ion channels (BK channels)."7.75Menthol increases human glioblastoma intracellular Ca2+, BK channel activity and cell migration.
